Managerial Abstract:
Passion often originates in leisure, hobby, or user contexts and may be the beginning of an extensive entrepreneurial journey and transformation of passion. This is particularly evident in the creative economy. Using a comparative causal mapping approach on a sample of people we designate rock 'n' roll entrepreneurs (i.e., individuals driven by a passion for music, and who are successful both artistically and entrepreneurially), we explore and explain the real-life composition of passion and performance. Passion is revealed to be an individual phenomenon, one composed of central and peripheral concepts, driven by personality and embedded in the context of life. The results suggest that concordance -that is the extent to which contradictions and conflicts have been either resolved in favor of or accepted as part of passion– determines the scope, degree, and performance outcomes of passion. The earlier and more clearly the contingencies of passion are recognized and resolved, the greater the potential for purposeful action. Therefore, creative economy entrepreneurs, educators and counselors can use the mechanism of concordance to consciously reflect passion driven tensions between artistic, social and entrepreneurial demands and to translate passion into behavioral effectiveness and entrepreneurial success.
